Radboud University’s Halkes Women Faculty Network and Radboud Reflects invites you to the Dutch premiere of “Hidden Figures”. Based on the book of the same name, “Hidden Figures” highlights the contributions of three brilliant Afro-American women to NASA’s quest to space: the mathematician Katherine Johnson, the computer programmer Dorothy Vaughan, and the aerospace engineer Mary Jackson. While their story remained until recently untold, the movie has gained enormous success among the audience and the critics and is now inspiring the new generations.
After the movie we discuss about diversity: What is the state of diversity in our society? What is its value for science and society? Join the debate after the movie and exchange your view with scientists.

The projection and the debate takes place from 19.30-21.30 hrs. and will be in LUX, Mariënburg 38-39 in Nijmegen.
About the speakers
Nissanke,-SamayaSamaya <https://samayanissanke.wordpress.com/> is an assistant professor at the Institute of Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP). She is head of /Radboud Virgo Gravitational Wave group /and her research focuses on the birth of black holes. She is currently recipient of a NWO VIDI grant and an European ERC grant.
Marieke van den Brink <http://%20http//www.ru.nl/genderstudies/historie/staf/vaste-stafleden/vaste-staf/van-den-brink/> is Full Professor Gender & Diversity at Radboud University. She researches the place and functioning of gender and diversity in organizations and the possibilities and impossibilities of organizational change. Her research focuses on gatekeeping, micropolitics, male networks and the construction of scientific excellence. In 2011 she was awarded a VENI grant from the national science foundation (NWO) to conduct a large scale case study research on organizational learning and change towards diversity.
Vidotto Francesca <http://www.hef.ru.nl/~fvidotto/> will moderate the discussion. She is a researcher in Theoretical Physics at IMAPP Radboud University. She holds a NWO VENI grant to study what there was before the big bang and what there is inside black holes. She is also member of the board of the Radboud University’s Halkes Women Faculty Network .
